Armenian saffron. 100% pure saffron threads.

Saffron is often sold as a product. For us, it is a process we follow from the beginning.

Sari Safran offers 100% pure saffron threads from Armenia, carefully accompanied from cultivation to final packaging. We are present during harvest and closely involved in the drying process — where aroma, colour and quality are defined.

This direct connection to the origin allows us to offer saffron that is not only high quality, but also transparent and traceable.

Why origin matters in saffron

Saffron is one of the most valuable spices in the world. Its quality depends heavily on where and how it is grown. Armenia offers ideal conditions — a clean environment, traditional cultivation methods and careful harvesting practices.

But origin alone is not enough. What matters is how closely the process is followed at every stage, from field to tin.

A direct connection to the fields

Sari Safran is not a reseller. We are directly involved in every step that matters.

  • Present during cultivation on our own farm in Armenia
  • Accompanying the harvest before sunrise
  • Overseeing the drying process with precision
  • Ensuring consistent quality across every batch

This direct involvement allows us to control the stages that define saffron quality — not just inspect the finished product.

100% pure saffron threads

Our saffron consists of 100% pure threads.

No powder. No mixing. No additives.

Whole threads offer full transparency. You can see the structure, colour and quality before you use them. For anyone serious about saffron, whole threads are always the right choice.

What defines high-quality saffron

Good saffron is not about intensity alone. It is about balance and clarity.

01

Aroma

A clean, warm, slightly floral scent. Complex without being sharp.

02

Colour

Deep red threads. Strong golden colouring power when steeped in warm liquid.

03

Taste

Precise and balanced. A fine bitter note — never harsh or dull.

04

Potency

Quality saffron works even in small quantities. A little goes a long way.

05

Traceability

A clear, honest origin. You should know where your saffron comes from.

Why saffron is expensive

Saffron is entirely hand-produced. Every step requires care and precision — manual harvesting before sunrise, careful separation of the three red stigmas per flower, controlled drying, and strict quality selection.

Around 150,000 flowers are needed to produce one kilogram of saffron. This is why real saffron cannot be mass-produced, and why its price reflects genuine work rather than marketing.

Who this saffron is for

Sari Safran is for people who value origin and quality — not just a name on a tin. Our saffron is used by home cooks who want the real thing, chefs working with fine ingredients, restaurants focused on provenance, and anyone looking for a thoughtful, meaningful gift.

When buying saffron online, transparency matters more than ever. You should know where it comes from, how it is produced, and who stands behind it.

With Sari Safran, this process is visible and traceable. We ship from Switzerland with care — every order leaves our hands in the same condition we would want to receive it.

Questions about Armenian saffron

Armenia has a long tradition of saffron cultivation and ideal growing conditions — cold winters, a moist spring and hot dry summers. Sari Safran grows its saffron on a single family farm in the Tavush region, with full involvement in every step from field to packaging.

Steep the threads in warm water, milk or broth for 10 to 20 minutes before adding to your dish. This releases the full colour, aroma and flavour. Around 0.1 to 0.2 grams is enough for most recipes — quality saffron goes a long way.

Look for deep red threads with slightly orange tips. When steeped in warm water, genuine saffron slowly releases a golden-yellow colour — not instantly red. The aroma should be warm, floral and slightly honeyed. Whole threads are always more reliable than powder.

Store saffron in an airtight container, away from light, heat and moisture. A cool dark cupboard is ideal. Properly stored, saffron retains its potency for up to three years. Avoid storing near the stove or in direct sunlight.

Yes. We ship worldwide from our base in Luzern, Switzerland. Orders are carefully packaged to protect the saffron during transit. Delivery times vary by destination.

We cultivate our saffron without pesticides or herbicides and are working towards official certification. Until that is in place, we deliberately avoid using protected terms such as organic or biological.
